Sync between your Macs

Share a workspace and it shows up on your other Macs, with its task board. Your SSH hosts follow you too. Secrets never leave the Mac they're on.

What syncs

Sync works between Macs signed in to the same Termlux account. It never reaches anyone else, even people you work with. The one exception is a task board you share with people.

WhatSyncsWhat goes along
WorkspacesOnly the ones you share (off unless you turn it on)Name, group, colour, agent, layout and folder path. Not its files
Task boardsThose of shared workspacesEvery task, with its history
SSH hostsAll of them, unless you turn it offAddress, user, port, group, settings, port-forward rules, and which key each uses

Never synced: environment variables, host passwords, SSH keys, and your files. Nothing that runs by itself syncs either: a workspace's auto-start command and worktree setup, and a host's on-connect command and agent or X11 forwarding, stay on the Mac where you set them. Settings, saved prompts, snippets and templates stay on each Mac too.

Share a workspace

Turn on Sync to my other Macs: in Workspace settings › General, or in the workspace's menu on Home or its tab. A shared workspace shows a cloud icon.

On your other Mac, it appears in the list. If its folder isn't on that Mac, it says Not on this Mac: choose where it is there (that choice stays on that Mac), or remove it from that Mac.

Settings › Account shows how many of your workspaces are shared.

Hosts

Hosts sync unless you turn it off: for one host, with its Sync to my other Macs switch (it then says Only on this Mac), or for this whole Mac, with Settings › Account › Hosts sync to your other Macs. More in SSH hosts.

How fast

  • A change goes up about a second and a half after you make it.
  • While your Macs are online, the other Mac usually has it within a second or two. The task board shows a live dot then.
  • Otherwise Termlux checks every 30 seconds, and once at launch.

Offline, you work as usual, and everything catches up when you're back.

When two Macs change the same thing

The newer change wins, per workspace, task or host. A task's history keeps both Macs' notes. Something missing on one Mac is never taken as deleted: only deleting it does that.

Deleting and removing

  • Delete a shared workspace and Termlux asks: Remove from this Mac (your other Macs keep it) or Delete on all your Macs. Its folder is never touched.
  • Deleted on another Mac: if nothing is running in it here, it goes from this Mac too, and Termlux tells you. If something is running, you choose whether to keep it.
  • Removed from this Mac: Settings › Account lists the workspaces you removed here that your other Macs still have. Follow again brings one back.

Hosts work the same way: delete one, and choose Only on this Mac or Remove on all your Macs.
